The novel Hoot is a young adult fiction by Carl Hiaasen. It is about a young teen named Roy who moves to Florida. Making new friends on the way, he joins in on the fight with them to save endangered burrowing owls, that are at risk of losing their habitat from construction of a pancake house. Determined to investigate it, he finds himself caught up in something that is alternately a mystery, adventure, and an environmental quest.
This story relates as a environmental world issue. The message in the book is one must protect the environment and all that lives in it to keep our world in balance. Protecting nature and preserving the environment is an important fight. The story line is very strong and the quality is decent, making it a very thrilling adventure to read. It is the message of protecting the environment that ties the book all together, which really makes it a good read overall. The intended audience for the book is ages ten and up. Main characters in the book are young adults which is what also makes it a good read because you may be able to relate to them. If you are interested in adventure and the environment this book is definitely for you.
