Often times, when we enjoy what we read we learn more. Dr. Seuss' short story "Yertle the Turtle" is a fun and lighthearted children's tale that just might make you think. While the story is plenty of fun for kids, the real underlying message is truly targeted towards the parents. This story depicts a very relatable world where a tyrannical King named Yertle abuses his power, and a plain little turtle named Mack stands up for his rights. Mack's little spark of rebellion brings the King's throne toppling down, and the turtles are granted their freedom.
I believe that by writing this story, Dr. Seuss comments on the political injustice that is often felt by lower-class citizens, and highlights the importance of human rights. Just like Mack's burp, this little book has the power to create great change.

"I know, up on top you are seeing great sights,
But down at the bottom we, too, should have rights."
-Mack
"And the turtles, of course... all the turtles are free
As turtles and, maybe, all creatures should be."
- Dr. Seuss
